Catawiki, the world’s largest collectibles catalogue and market place, has selected LEWIS PR to manage its UK launch. The campaign dove into the heart of London’s collector community last month with a drinks and live comic book signing to mark the launch at Orbital Comics in central London, and is accompanied by a digital strategy to engage with an active online community of collectors.

Headquartered in The Netherlands, Catawiki provides extensive catalogues for collectors in hundreds of different genres, from comics and action figures to sugar packets and beer mats. The site currently hosts 2 million collectables for sale all over the world.

The campaign, which will be managed by LEWIS in the Benelux, France and Germany regions as well as the UK, aims to take advantage of the lively and committed communities of collectors in each market. In the run up to the most hotly anticipated Royal Wedding since Charles and Diana, Catawiki is launching a dedicated William and Kate microsite for collectors of memorabilia to swap information and snag that must-have memorabilia as the wedding date gets near.

“The Royal Wedding has spawned an industry of its own when it comes to souvenirs, everything from traditional mugs and plates to beer, baseball caps and condoms are available to collect,” said Elizabeth Littlewood, Director of Technology, UK at LEWIS. “The site is a great place to buy and sell, as well as trade information and get hints on what to invest in now, and what to leave well alone.”

“

Catawiki makes even the most obscure collections accessible to everyone,” said Rene Schoenmakers, co-founder of Catawiki. “Working with LEWIS PR, we have the UK collector communities in our sites and will be tapping into some of the great online and offline groups to drive site registrations and raise the brand’s profile.

”

The London launch event took place on Wednesday, March 30th. The event included a Q&A and sketching session with Christian Wildgoose, lead artist of True Grit: Mean Business the comic accompaniment to Paramount’s Oscar nominated Western.
